Public IPs
Give an instance a dedicated address that stays the same.
Use a public IP when a service on an instance needs a stable IPv4 address, such as for SSH, webhooks, APIs, or an allowlist at another provider.
Public IPs are in early access. If the Public IPs page is missing from Networking, contact support.
Reserve an address
- Open Networking → Public IPs and choose Reserve IP.
- Check the monthly price and confirm.
- Wait for the address to appear. A new reservation shows Awaiting assignment until an address is available.
Billing starts when you reserve the address and continues while it is reserved, whether or not it is bound to an instance.
Bind to an instance
Open Manage on a reserved address, choose an instance, and choose Bind. An instance can have one public IP at a time.
After binding, the address appears on the instance's Networking tab. Allow the ports you need in the instance's firewall before connecting from the internet.
Unbind
Open Manage and choose Unbind to remove the address from the instance. The address stays reserved and billed, so you can bind it to another instance later.
Delete
An address must be unbound before it can be deleted. Open Manage, choose Delete public IP, and confirm. Deleting stops the monthly charge immediately and cannot be undone.
Statuses
A reservation has a status and an address state:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Reserved | The address is held for your account but not bound to an instance. |
| Bound | The address is assigned to an instance. |
| Address state | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Awaiting assignment | The reservation is ready; an address is still being assigned. |
| Activating | The address is being prepared for traffic. |
| Forwarding | The address is ready and traffic reaches the instance. |
| Needs attention | The address could not be activated. Contact support if it stays in this state. |
Billing
Each public IP costs the monthly price shown on the Public IPs page while it is reserved. Binding or unbinding does not change the price. Deleting an unbound address stops the charge.
Outbound traffic from the instance is billed separately. See Billing and metrics for details.
Limits
Each account has a limit on reserved public IPs. Contact support if you need more addresses than your account allows.
